Before we get started, let's make sure you have all the tools you will need. I'm assuming you already have Poser or else you wouldn't be here so we'll skip that part. ;) Next, you need a recent copy of Daz Studio. That can be downloaded from the Daz3D website's main page. You'll probably need to register on their site for that too. While you are there, you will also need the DSON Importer for Poser Plugin. That can be found by clicking: right here. It can be a little hard to find on their site these days so make sure you follow my link. Once you have downloaded all the programs and plugin, have everything registered and installed, we can move on to the tutorial itself. For ease of understanding, from now on, I will refer to "Daz Studio" as "DS". This is my first tutorial for Renderosity so I'm open to feedback on how to improve it and make it better. I apologize if I skip or gloss over anything as I'm not the best teacher. I'm more used to doing than teaching. :)
Step 1: Setting Up a Shared Runtime
You'll want to setup a Runtime Library that can be shared between DS and Poser. Both Poser and DS can have multiple runtimes and it can make organization easier to have more than one but I know some people who only have one and only one runtime for ALL their content. If you are one of the latter people, you might skip this step. Otherwise, I created a runtime called "C:\Libraries\Daz DSON" so I know what this runtime is all about but you may name it whatever you wish as long as it's something easy to remember. You're going to need to remember it a lot in this tutorial. You will add this runtime to both Poser and DS. You will install the content you wish to convert ONLY to this runtime!
You probably know how to add a Poser runtime but if you've never used DS before, I will tell you how to add this runtime to DS:
- Go to the EDIT menu then down to PREFERENCES.
- Select the CONTENT tab then CONTENT DIRECTORY MANAGER button at the bottom.
- Click the ADD button and select your DSON runtime
- Make sure it is listed as a DAZ CONTENT runtime and NOT POSER!
- Click ACCEPT
- Please carry on to Step 2!
